Also, I paired it with this activity tracker. (Pro tip: my Best Buy had this for $69.99 in the store, so make sure to show them this price on your phone to get the price match). In case anyone is curious, here's the monitor I bought. You'll be amazed as to how great of a workout you can get while making sure you're only engaged enough to stay in your fat burning zone. So, if you're like me, set aside a little cash as soon as possible to invest in a heart rate monitor. Of course, this is no fault at all to DDP, as he makes it known at the start of every workout that you should be wearing one. This is much more satisfying, leads to a better workout, and I'm definitely feeling the difference. It also lets me focus on my breathing more.

I use the modified positions more often, but now it's in an effort to control my heart rate and fat burning instead of just giving in to exhaustion. Now that I know where my fat burning zone is, I have more control over the workout and my body so that I'm not burning muscle or over-exerting myself. I actually am able to hit my zone (130-150) after only about 10 minutes in most of the workouts if I'm highly engaged. After a couple of weeks, I can say that I was grossly incorrect about my heart rate. I then decided to pick up halfway through the Advanced plan, but while wearing a monitor. This was the same strategy I used with Insanity. I assumed that I should push myself to the max and only modify when I felt too weak to complete a move. I enjoyed the workouts, and I lost about 30 lbs total. I completed the entire Intermediate plan without wearing a heart rate monitor. I just wanted to share this in case there's anyone else out there like me who has been putting off the purchase of a heart rate monitor.
